Thank you! I too am a NaNoWriMo fan and have used that month for several first drafts that eventually became published novels. It's a great writing exercise.

I love this!! Can I back channel you for a project I'm working on about writers who have turned that month into a published novel?

Hi. I'm a two time NaNo finisher (2017 and 2018), which means I have two drafts finished but unpublished. Oh dear.

I'm thinking about doing it again this year and will probably join you as a paid subscriber at month end, as I'm keen to be involved with others who are writing in November! 😊

Yes, I love this!!! NaNoWriMo was how I learned I really wanted to be a writer. Idk where that book is now (sadly), but four years after I wrote it I went back to college. It really can be a huge transformative experience; I'm not sure why some folks act like it's not for "real" writers. I wish I could join this month but I'm working on *revisions* while also doing my PhD coursework. Maybe next year!!

Cheering to this: "It really can be a huge transformative experience; I'm not sure why some folks act like it's not for 'real' writers." Agree so much. Reflection can happen off the page and before beginning and then there is revision, where it all develops. I revised for two years. But I needed that uninterrupted one-month-long draft first! Sending you all the good wishes for your revisions and your coursework!

I did not know that you started as a poet, too, Christine! Yes, for certain that all the practice we were doing with the line and every word, once we broke the fear glass, aided the fiction-writing immensely. I encourage all students to take poetry-writing classes for this reason. Did not know Saunders' "line by line energy" phrasing--thanks for sharing!
